Bamenda City Council has approved a balanced budget of 5 billion Francs for the
upcoming financial year, marking a 3.04% increase of 147 million Francs CFA
compared to the previous year.
The budget breakdown allocates 2.4 billion for recurrent expenditure and 2.566 billion for investment purposes, emphasizing a
strategic financial plan for the city's growth.
Mayor Achobong Tambeng Paul highlighted significant enhancements in this year's budget, emphasizing the council's transition to executing a programmed budget for
the first time. The budget is structured around four key areas: basic social services,
economic development promotion, cultural support, sports and youth empowerment, as well as governance and local administration, all meticulously integrated into the financial plan.
Key priority projects for 2025 include the commencement of C2D projects, focusing on vital road and infrastructure developments in Bamenda. Notably, the construction
of modern markets in Bamenda I and III, along with the finalization of paperwork for the construction of the Bamenda urban bypass, are pivotal components of the city's development agenda.
Furthermore, initiatives such as road openings, bridge constructions, electricity extensions, and borehole installations are identified as fundamental projects essential for enhancing the city's infrastructure.
Mayor Achobong showcased a fleet of vehicles acquired since 2020, including a front-end loader, a grader, coasters,
pickups, and a land cruiser, signaling the council's commitment to transforming Bamenda's semi-urban roads.
In addressing waste management challenges, the council authorized engagement with International Solutions Company (ISE) to convert household waste into useful materials, ensuring a sustainable waste management approach without additional costs to the council. This initiative aligns with the council's previous efforts in waste sorting and promises a cleaner environment for Bamenda residents.
With a renewed vision and proactive stance from Mayor Achobong, Bamenda is poised to undergo extensive construction activities in 2025. Expectations among the population is high.
