Cameroon's academic prowess was recently showcased at the prestigious North-West University (NWU) in South Africa, where Prof Gabila Nubong from the Faculty of
Economic and Management Sciences clinched the top spot as the university's overall best staff member.
In a ceremony that celebrated excellence and innovation, Prof Howard Chitimira of the Faculty of Law and Prof Anél Petzer from the Faculty of Health Sciences were recognized as the first and second runners-up for the title of Most Productive Senior
Researcher, respectively.
The event also honoured Prof Anita Pienaar from the Faculty of Health Sciences with the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award for her groundbreaking work in longitudinal health analysis, child growth, physical activity, and motor development.
Prof Pienaar's focus on enhancing motor skills in children with diverse needs has significantly impacted the field.
Acknowledging the emerging talent within the institution, Dr Chantel Muller of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences was honoured with the Most
Productive Emerging Researcher Award.
Additionally, Prof Rose Haveshi from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Dr Fortunate Phaka from the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences were commended for their national and international
memberships.
The accolades continued with the recognition of Prof Byron Bunt and Dr Lance Bunt from the Faculties of Education and Natural and Agricultural Sciences, respectively, who received the Top Inventor Award.
Prof Erica Derbyshire from the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences and Prof Byron Bunt from the Faculty of Education were also lauded with the Innovation Impact Award and the Creative Output Award, respectively.
Further highlighting excellence in academia, the Vice-Chancellor's Medal was awarded to Inge Delport and Nicola Royce from the Faculties of Economic and Management Sciences and Health Sciences, respectively.

Troskie of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences was honoured with the S2A3 Bronze Medal for his outstanding contributions.
The ceremony, which brought together approximately 130 staff members, recognized
individuals for their exceptional achievements in teaching, learning, community engagement, research, and innovation. Prof Bismark Tyobeka, principal and vice-chancellor, commended the awardees for their commitment to advancing knowledge and making a positive impact on society.
