SDF Criticizes Cameroon's 2025 Finance Bill, Foresees Economic Hardships

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) in Cameroon has strongly criticized the 2025
Finance Bill, expressing concerns over the potential economic hardships it may bring to the nation. The opposition party highlighted issues such as the lack of clarity in the government's economic vision, the escalating cost of living especially concerning food prices and proposed fuel price increases that could worsen the economic challenges.

In their critique, the SDF pointed out shortcomings in the bill's fiscal policy, arguing that it perpetuates inequality and fails to encourage productivity and innovation. The party urged citizens to actively participate in political processes to address these
concerns and prevent further economic deterioration.
The SDF's reservations about the 2025 Finance Bill center on its failure to provide concrete solutions to Cameroon's economic challenges. Specifically, the party criticized the bill for lacking a clear economic direction and questioned whether the country will continue implementing strategies like the SND30 framework aimed at reducing reliance on foreign entities.
Regarding the rising cost of living, the SDF noted a significant increase in Cameroon's inflation rate, particularly impacting food prices. They argued that the budget allocation fell short of what was necessary to maintain the standard of living from the previous year. The party also condemned the government's plan to raise fuel prices, labeling it as detrimental to the economy.
On the fiscal policy front, the SDF raised concerns about the government's approach, highlighting a perceived imbalance between revenue generation and promoting inclusive economic growth. They questioned the wisdom of approving a relatively
modest investment budget amidst escalating production costs.
Louis Marie Kakdeu, the SDF's Second Vice National Chairman, emphasized the
party's stance on the 2025 Finance Bill, emphasizing the need for more effective
measures to address the economic challenges facing Cameroon.
