Cameroon's Farmer Tantoh Wins Global Recognition for Environmental Activism

    Dieudonne Tantoh Nforba, widely known as Farmer Tantoh immortalizes the moment.

Doha, Qatar, April 23, 2025 - Cameroonian environmental activist Dieudonne Tantoh Nforba, widely known as Farmer Tantoh, has been honored as one of the four global winners of the prestigious Earthna Prize. 
Farmer Tantoh receiving the award from Her Excellency, Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation.

This esteemed award, initiated by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF), recognizes outstanding efforts in preserving ancestral knowledge and cultural heritage in addressing contemporary environmental challenges.

Farmer Tantoh, founder of The Farmer Tantoh Foundation, was celebrated at the second edition for his tireless work in water conservation and access to clean water in the Western Highlands of Cameroon. 
    Farmer Tantoh flanked alongside the three other winners of the prestigious award.

Since its inception in 2005, the Foundation, formerly known as Save Your Future Association, has supported over 70 water projects, benefiting more than 60,000 people across Cameroon. The foundation's efforts have also led to the planting of over 50,000 water-friendly trees and the establishment of 20 water recharge facilities.

According to Farmer Tantoh, "I just received an international Prize from Qatar government through Qatar Foundation for my efforts at grassroots on water conservation and access to safe drinking water in the Western Highlands of Cameroon. It's called the EarthnaPrizee. Out of 400 nominations from 100 countries, 12 of us made it to the finalist and only 4 winners were selected. I emerged in the first position."
    Farmer Tantoh and Idris Elba, a prominent British movie star.

During the ceremony, Farmer Tantoh had the opportunity to meet with British movie star Idris Elba, who was invited to chair the event. 

Expressing his gratitude, Farmer Tantoh said, "I give God the glory for seeing me through this journey of environmental sustainability since 1996 when I had the vision while in form 4 till present. Peace and blessings."

The recognition of Farmer Tantoh's efforts serves as a testament to the impact of dedication and community-driven initiatives in addressing environmental challenges. 

As the Earthna Prize continues to inspire a wider community to champion environmental stewardship, Farmer Tantoh's achievement highlights the importance of preserving ancestral knowledge and cultural heritage in building a more resilient and environmentally conscious world.
