CDENO Distributes Inputs to Boost Fish and Diary Production in North West

The North West Livestock Development Fund (CDENO) has distributed livestock inputs to 750 selected beneficiaries in the North West Region, as part of the Emergency Project to Combat Food Crisis in Cameroon (PULCCA) sponsored by the World Bank. The beneficiaries include 300 milk producers, 300 fish farmers, and 150 women fishmongers.

According to the Director of CDENO, Mbah Shupong Michael, this exercise is the fifth edition of the distribution of inputs to livestock farmers by CDENO under the PULCCA project. He thanked the Governor of the North West Region, the Government of Cameroon, and the World Bank for their support.

The Director outlined the inputs being distributed to each group of beneficiaries. Milk producers received barbed wire, Brachiaria seeds, moles for mineral licks, fertilizer, salt, white cement, CMV concentrate, and nails. Fish farmers received fish tanks, fishing nets, fingerlings, fish feed, digital PH meters, and aquatic thermometers. Women fishmongers on their part, received mobile choker ovens, cool boxes, barbecues with grills, working attire, and tables with umbrellas.

The CDENO Director noted that the beneficiaries had undergone training on the production, management, and transformation of fish and dairy products. He assured the beneficiaries of CDENO's availability to accompany them in their activities and urged them to make efficient use of the inputs.

Mbah Shupong Michael also reminded the beneficiaries of the mass vaccination of 450,000 local fowls against New Castle diseases, local fowl typhoid, and local fowl cholera, which is ongoing in all villages of the North West Region.

According to the Director, the project has so far assisted over 1,500 farmers in the region, including poultry, pig, and small ruminant farmers. The inputs being distributed include fish tanks, fishing nets, fingerlings, fish feed, and equipment for dairy production.

The beneficiaries, who were selected from all the divisions of the North West Region, underwent training on the production, management, and transformation of fish and dairy products. The Director urged the beneficiaries to make efficient use of the inputs to meet the expected objectives of the project.

The Governor's representative, Saidouna Ali, Secretary General of the North West Governor's office, thanked the government and the World Bank for their support and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs.

One of the beneficiaries, Ndzi Samuel Nfor from Ndu in Donga Mantung Division, expressed gratitude to PULCCA and CDENO for their support, promising to put the inputs to maximum use.

The project aims to boost fish and milk production in the region, making these essential commodities available at moderate prices and improving the living standards of the beneficiaries.
