Risks Outweigh Benefits: U.S. Ambassador Warns Against Illegal Immigration

Christopher J. Lamora, US Ambassador to Cameroon.

U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon, Christopher J. Lamora, has sounded the alarm on the dangers of illegal immigration to the United States, emphasizing that the risks far outweigh any potential benefits.

"Attempting to immigrate illegally poses significant threats to one's well-being and life, including imprisonment, deportation, and a permanent ban on obtaining future U.S. visas," Ambassador Lamora warns.

According to the diplomat, the consequences of illegal immigration are severe. "Those who try to enter the U.S. without proper authorization may face imprisonment and deportation," he notes. Adding that visa fraud can result in fines, imprisonment, or both, as well as denial of entry into the United States.

Moreover, Ambassador Lamora stresses that the risks associated with illegal immigration are alarming. "Hundreds of migrants from around the world die every year while crossing deserts, seas, or other treacherous terrain in a desperate bid to reach the United States," Ambassador Lamora highlights. He revealed that undocumented migrants are also vulnerable to violence and exploitation by criminal groups, cartels, and human traffickers.

To ensure safety and future prospects, the US Ambassador to Cameroon advises individuals considering traveling to the United States to take a different path. "Research visa requirements, apply legally, and seek guidance from U.S. embassy officials or authorized representatives," he urges.

In a clear and direct message, Ambassador Lamora emphasizes, "Make the right choice: obey the law and do not put your safety, your family, or your future at risk." The choice, he stresses, is a simple one: follow the law and pursue a safe and lawful path to the United States.
