The Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, has commended the management of the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilisation Fund (CSPH) for their outstanding work in constructing the Bamenda Liquified Petroleum Gas centre. The centre was officially inaugurated on May 9, 2025, in Bangshie, Bamendankwe, Bamenda I Subdivision, Mezam Division, North West Region.
The ceremony was attended by notable personalities, including the General Manager of CSPH, Okie Johnson Ndoh, the Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, Members of Parliament, Senators, and other elites of the region.
Minister Essomba, representing the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, highlighted the significance of the gas filling centre in promoting clean energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Bamenda Liquified Petroleum Gas filling centre is part of the government's efforts to provide each region with at least one gas storage and filling centre.
Minister Essomba confirmed that the price of domestic gas has been reduced and harmonized at 6,500 FCFA per 12.5kg of gas. He urged the population to make good use of the special gift donated to the North West Region by the Head of State and to quit using firewood, which contributes to deforestation.
The Minister also called on authorities in the North West Region to fight fraud and discrimination within the filling centre. He congratulated the management of CSPH for overseeing the construction of the centre and urged them to ensure that sons and daughters of the region are recruited to work in the centre.
The General Manager of CSPH, Okie Johnson Ndoh, emphasized that the project was realized thanks to the efforts of the administration of the region, several companies, and the population. He described the ultra-modern complex as a reflection of the dynamism of the public authorities in the petroleum sector in Cameroon.
"The facility will serve public interest in many ways," Johnson said. "This project falls in line with the objectives defined by the government in the master plan for energy sector development as described by the Head of State."
He emphasized that the project's benefits, include reducing deforestation, promoting clean cooking energy, and creating around 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Cross Section of Two Water Tanks
He revealed that the centre has a capacity of filling over 600 cylinders within an hour and is equipped with modernized and automated equipment, emphasizing that the centre was constructed on ten hectares of land, comprising of two main areas, the operational and the residential area...."The operational area includes, the fire water tank, air compressor, dryer station, fire water pump, house LPG compressor building, LPG cylinder filling hall, LPG bullets tanks, LPG cylinder storage hall, the administrative building, operational building, and maintenance building".
Meanwhile, the residential area includes the staff quarters, clinic, restaurant, football field, tankers withholding area. "This structure we are inaugurating today is special because, unlike the other sectors, it is a brand new model integrated with an industrial component characterised with a modernised and automated equipment. It is the first of its kind ever to be constructed in Cameroon, and the North West Region happens to be the first to benefit from this innovation. Its functionality meets the requirements of an ultra-modern gas filling and storage system," Okie added.
The CSPH GM urged the population to take control of the centre and for the youth and elite to have confidence in the government and the nation.
During the ceremony, several authorities who played key roles in the project's realization were awarded medals. The General Manager of CSPH, Okie Johnson, was knighted and promoted to the rank of Officer of the Order of Valour.
Gifts were also presented to the Minister and the General Manager of CSPH from traditional authorities, CPDM North West elite, North West Regional Assembly, and others.
Gabriel Eteke, Deputy General Manager of Cameroon Petroleum Depot Company (SCDP), assured that SCDP will operate and maintain the facility, recruiting and training staff from the North West Region. "We will ensure that the facility is run efficiently and effectively, providing benefits to the local community," Eteke said.
The center, constructed by Jens Production Company Limited, features cutting-edge technology and modern design. With a capacity to fill 600-650 cylinders per hour, it guarantees the availability of domestic gas across the region. Kronakecha Uti, Director of Jens Production Company, explained that the project started 26 months ago and has been completed with state-of-the-art facilities.
The inauguration of the Bamenda gas filling centre marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to promote clean energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project is a testament to the government's commitment to improving the lives of citizens and promoting economic development in the region.
