The Front for Change of Cameroon (FCC) has strongly criticized Minister Grégoire Owona's recent statement, accusing the ruling CPDM party of overstepping its bounds.
Gregoire Owona, also the Deputy Secretary General of the CPDM, made comments that the FCC believes arrogates to the party the powers of the Constitutional Council and Elections Cameroon (ELECAM).
FCC National President, Hon. Jean Michel Nintcheu, responded, stating that Owona's remarks demonstrate the CPDM's grip on electoral processes, a claim long made by the political opposition and civil society.
Hon. Nintcheu emphasized that the FCC had given Owona no mandate to conduct political canvassing or sound out parties willing to nominate a candidate.
The FCC sees Owona's statement as confirmation of the CPDM's control over the electoral system and a threat to citizens' rights. Nintcheu warned Owona and the CPDM to respect the people's sovereignty and read the signs of history, urging them to return to the right side while there is still time.
This public rebuke highlights the ongoing tensions between the ruling party and opposition groups in Cameroon, with the FCC calling on public opinion to witness the CPDM's actions. The situation underscores the importance of electoral reform and the need for a level playing field for all political parties.
