Journalist Fred Vubem Undergoes Surgery After Harrowing Kidnapping Experience

Journalist Fred Vubem is undergoing surgery at the Bamenda Regional Hospital after he sustained a fracture on the right leg around his kneel following a harrowing kidnapping experience. He was admitted to the hospital with wounds on his buttocks, requiring immediate attention.

Vubem, a journalist with Cameroon Tribune in the North West Region, was kidnapped by armed men on May 4 while on his way back to Bamenda from his village in Kedjom Keku, Tubah Subdivision. 

He spent four days in captivity, during which he was subjected to beating. Vubem managed to escape from his captors on Monday and was later found by local farmers, who took him to the Bambui District Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to the Bamenda Regional Hospital.

Colleagues and family members are supporting Vubem as he undergoes treatment and recovery, calling for justice and an end to attacks on journalists. As of now, there has been no official statement from authorities regarding Vubem's kidnapping or escape, and investigations are reportedly ongoing.
