The Organization for Women's Empowerment and Development (OWED) has been recognized globally for its tireless efforts in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and education. The organization received the prestigious RedVocate Menstrual Hygiene Champion Award for 2025 from the International Menstrual Hygiene Coalition.
The award ceremony took place on May 10th at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé, where Antoinette Ghansiwiyi, Yaoundé branch coordinator of OWED, accepted the award on behalf of Ndzerem Mildred Diytumsin, Executive Director of OWED. The award acknowledges OWED's outstanding dedication and leadership in championing menstrual hygiene awareness, education, and empowerment.
OWED's work in menstrual hygiene management has been instrumental in empowering adolescent girls and young women. The organization has donated dignity kits, trained girls and young women on producing reusable pads, and raised awareness on menstrual hygiene management.
Ndzerem Mildred Diytumsin, who is the main brain behind the recognition, expressed her gratitude and humility upon receiving the award, stating that it is a motivation to triple their efforts and extend their reach to more girls in hard-to-reach areas.
As a women-led organization, OWED's vision is to improve the status of women and girls through socioeconomic empowerment, education, and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Established in 2019, OWED has been working to empower women and girls through various initiatives. This international recognition is a testament to OWED's dedication to promoting menstrual hygiene and empowering women and girls. With this award, OWED is poised to expand its reach and impact, further solidifying its position as a leader in menstrual hygiene advocacy.
