SDF Slams Obala Authorities Over Rally Ban

Nguidjol Ngan, SDF Shadow Cabinet Member in charge of Information and Media.

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has strongly condemned the local authorities in Obala for prohibiting its planned rally scheduled for May 23, 2025. The party was notified of the ban late on May 22, 2025, with the authorities citing the unavailability of the proposed venue, Obala Town Square.

According to the SDF, the ban is a result of the authorities' discomfort following the massive turnout of SDF militants during the May 20th parade in Obala. The party proposed an alternative venue, the Obala Municipal Stadium, but this was rejected by the authorities. The SDF has decided to postpone the rally to a later date, which will be communicated in due course.

In a statement signed by Nguidjol Ngan, SDF Shadow Cabinet Member in charge of Information and Media, the party urged its militants to remain calm and composed and to intensify their grassroots mobilization, voter registration efforts, and recruitment of electoral agents.

The SDF also reassured its supporters that every effort is being made to ensure that the Obala rally will be rescheduled and held in the coming days.
