The President of the South West Regional Assembly, Bakoma Zacchaeus Elango, has dissociated the Assembly from a letter addressed to the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako Division. The letter, written by the Vice President of the South West Regional Executive Council and President of the South West House of Chiefs, challenged the SDO's authority to insist on the presence of traditional rulers at National Day celebrations.
The SDO had sent a message to traditional rulers in Fako Division, reminding them of their republican duty to participate in the National Day celebrations. However, the President of the South West House of Chiefs responded, questioning the SDO's authority.

In a letter dated May 19, 2025, the President of the South West Regional Assembly stated that the letter was a misrepresentation of the Assembly and violated Section 31(2) of the General Code of the Regional and Local Authorities. He also emphasized that the South West Regional Assembly has been working to promote peace and normalcy in the region.

The letter by the Vice President of the South West Regional Assembly who double as the President of the South West House of Chiefs has sparked controversy, with some questioning its timing and intent while some think he is in order. The South West Regional Assembly's dissociation from the letter suggests that there may be internal conflicts or differences in opinion within the Assembly.

The incident highlights the complexities of traditional and administrative relationships in Cameroon. As the country celebrates its National Day, it remains to be seen how this issue will unfold and what implications it may have for the region.
