Buea, May 3, 2025 - Njomo Omam Esther, Eringo Cha Ekombo Executive Director of Global Peace Champion (GPC), has paid tribute to journalists who risk their lives to tell stories and inform the public. In a statement marking World Press Freedom Day, Esther honored the bravery of media professionals who report with integrity, even in difficult times.
The Eringo Cha Ekombo of Mundemba chiefdom acknowledged the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence on the media landscape but emphasized that truth-telling still requires a human heart, moral compass, and unshakable courage. She expressed gratitude to the media for their partnership with Reach Out Cameroon, amplifying voices from the margins, and shedding light on issues often overlooked.
However, the Executive Director also issued a call to action, urging journalists to speak truth to power impartially, resist hate speech, and choose peace over provocation. "Journalism must never be a weapon, but a bridge," she emphasized.
Her message concluded with a pledge of solidarity with journalists, honoring their sacrifice, and urging their protection. Her words serve as a reminder of the crucial role journalists play in promoting transparency, accountability, and peace.
