Buea, May 3, 2025 - Kihkishiy Kenneth, Regional Coordinator of the Cameroon Freedoms Observatory for the South West Region, has paid tribute to media professionals in Cameroon on World Press Freedom Day. In a heartfelt message, the media activist acknowledged the tireless efforts of journalists to bring truth and accountability to the forefront, despite facing numerous challenges.
Kenneth commended the dedication and resilience of media professionals, particularly in the face of shrinking civic space, upcoming presidential elections, and the ongoing conflict in Anglophone regions. He emphasized the crucial role of journalists in holding those in power accountable and giving voice to the voiceless.
The activist urged all stakeholders to respect and defend the rights of journalists to report freely and without fear of reprisal. He also encouraged citizens to engage with credible sources of information and support independent media, stressing that informed participation is vital to a healthy democracy.
"Thank you, media professionals, for your service to our society," Kenneth said. "May your work continue to inspire, inform, and hold us accountable."
Kenneth's message highlights the importance of protecting and promoting press freedom, a fundamental right that is essential for a functioning democracy. As Cameroon navigates complex political and social challenges, the role of journalists remains crucial in shaping public discourse and promoting transparency.
