YOSA FC Addresses Player Salary Disputes Amid Suspension of Team Activities

In a public statement released earlier this week, Yong Sports Academic, (YOSA FC) managed to shed light on the recent turmoil surrounding the team’s decision to halt all training and match activities due to unresolved salary issues.

The players, concerned about unpaid wages, decided to suspend their engagements after learning that rival teams in the region were receiving state subsidies, a disparity that raised questions about fairness and financial equity within the league.

“Our players have rightfully refused to play until their outstanding salaries are paid,” stated Emma Mimba, the President of YOSA FC. “The situation escalated when it became apparent that other clubs were benefiting from state subventions, thereby neglecting our players’ rights.”

YOSA FC has emphasized that they had previously submitted the necessary bank statements and salary justifications to the Federation (FECAFOOT) and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP) as part of the government's requirements for financial support. However, they have yet to receive any funds, leaving the club in a precarious financial position.

The statement further elaborated on the challenges faced by the club, including the economic strain caused by having to host home games in various towns throughout the West Region, which has hindered their ability to generate essential revenue. Unmet gate takings and matchday income significantly impact the club’s operational budget, making state support vital for the sustainability of YOSA FC.

“We have barely received the entitled funds over the last two seasons,” Mimba noted, pointing to ongoing financial issues that have persisted. “State subventions and sponsorship are essential to our annual budget, and we are reliant on the federation's timely payments to fulfill our obligations.”

In response to the crisis, the management of YOSA FC reported that President Mimba had a meeting with the Federation President, who assured that the accounting team was diligently working to resolve the matter. Subsequently, the club submitted additional documentation to support their claims and requested a reprogramming of their upcoming games to the Secretary General of the CFTP.

“We have held meaningful talks with our players, and training has resumed as we seek to navigate through these challenging times,” Mimba added, expressing optimism for a resolution.

YOSA FC expressed appreciation for the understanding and patience exhibited by fans and stakeholders, affirming their commitment to the game and their hope that the federation will respond positively and promptly.

As the situation develops, the overarching concern remains the impact of financial disparities on clubs in the region and the urgent need for equitable distribution of resources to ensure fair competition in the league.
