Cross Section of Militants and Sympathizers.
The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Momo Division has reaffirmed its political dominance in the division, as militants, section executives, mayors, councillors and elites gathered on Friday, August 29, 2025, for a grand stock-taking meeting of the party’s five sections.
The session, which held under tight mobilization, was chaired by Justice Mbah Acha Rose Fomundam, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit and head of the CPDM Central Committee Permanent Divisional Delegation for Momo.
Addressing the highly attended event, Justice Mbah Acha expressed satisfaction with the turnout and saluted the commitment of militants, noting that the CPDM currently controls all elective positions in the division from parliamentary to council and senatorial seats. She urged mayors and councillors to show more visibility and pride in the party, emphasizing discipline and teamwork as crucial ahead of the October 12 presidential election.
“We are the winning party. When we gather, we must shine in our green, red and yellow. This is our time to prove our strength,” she declared.
The minister however criticized absenteeism among some councillors, warning that laxity in party activities would not be tolerated. She stressed that upcoming polls will require intense grassroots mobilization, the distribution of voter cards, and vigilance at polling stations.
“If we don’t register members and ensure they collect their voter cards, we cannot expect victory,” she cautioned.
Defections from Opposition to CPDM
The stock-taking meeting was also marked by significant defections from opposition ranks. In Njikwa, Ekanya Francis, former SDF District Chairman and list leader in the 2020 municipal elections, publicly resigned from the SDF alongside 14 other militants, including local leaders such as Foban Dieudonne, Dr. Fonkuo, and Rev. Asah Jacob.
Explaining his decision, Ekanya said the CPDM’s message of peace and development convinced him to cross the carpet.
“What caught my attention is the CPDM’s consistency in preaching peace. Without peace, there can be no development. In the SDF we faced frustration and lack of leadership. With the CPDM, there is hope,” he told Laarry Times.
Other sections, Batibo and Ngie, equally reported defections of opposition militants into the CPDM, with leaders pledging near-total loyalty to the ruling party. In Ngie, local leaders promised 95% of votes for President Paul Biya in October, despite difficulties linked to insecurity and the irregular presence of ELECAM officials.
Local Concerns and Development Pledges
Speakers also highlighted persistent challenges in Momo, including poor roads, lack of electricity in Widikum, and difficulties in organizing political activities in some enclaved zones. Justice Mbah Acha reassured militants that government was addressing these concerns, citing ongoing works on the Ngie–Njikwa road network and efforts to restore power supply in Widikum.
Mayors from across the division emphasized their development record as proof of CPDM credibility.
Mayor Akebe Emmanuel of Njikwa noted that major projects, including a multi-billion FCFA road project and three-phase electricity, were already under execution. “Our people are regaining confidence in the CPDM because we don’t just preach, we deliver,” he said.
Similarly, Mayor Ubangoh Helly of Ngie underscored that grassroots development initiatives remain the best campaign message. “In politics, people look at what leaders are doing. My achievements on the ground speak for themselves,” he remarked.
A Show of Strength
The meeting ended with renewed pledges of loyalty, with Asongwed Emmanuel Anyang, Charge de Mission for CPDM Divisional Permanent Delegation for Momo presenting reports that showed growing numbers of registered voters across the division: 17,625 in Batibo, 14,566 in Mbengwi, 12,243 in Widikum, 6,154 in Ngie, and 5,052 in Njikwa.
Justice Mbah Acha concluded by calling on militants to remain united and proud of their party.
“For the first time, the CPDM has swept all elective positions in Momo. This victory must be consolidated. Forward ever, backward never,” she declared, before handing CPDM uniforms to new entrants as a symbol of full integration.
With less than two months to the presidential election, the Momo CPDM appears determined to translate its local dominance into a resounding show of support for the party’s candidate at the national polls.
