The Ministry of Public Works has commended Société MAG Sarl for the pace and quality of work on the Ndu–Nkambe stretch of the North West Ring Road, describing the indigenous engineering firm as “unbeatable” in technical execution and “matchless” in project speed.
According to the ministry’s latest update, the project is 70.33 percent complete, though officials have urged the company to accelerate work to close the gap with contractual deadlines, already at 95.52 percent. The 31-kilometer lot, part of National Road No.11, connects Ndu to Nkambe and forms a critical link in the larger Kumbo–Ndu–Nkambe–Misaje section of the Ring Road.
Cross Section of the Nkambe-Ndu Road.Work is currently focused on the carriageway, which is 52.04 percent complete, alongside maintenance in damaged areas and the laying of the base course between several key points. With earthworks finalized and more than 70 box culverts already built, MAG Sarl has deployed heavy machinery and personnel to advance the roadbeds despite tough geography and security challenges.
The company, led by former minister Shey Jones Yembe, has earned a reputation not just for technical delivery but also for its community-centered approach. Beyond the road, MAG Sarl has invested heavily in social responsibility initiatives, from compensating farmers for lost crops and property to constructing resettlement homes and improving water supply systems. In Binka village alone, the firm built a potable water system serving 2,000 residents, while also supporting schools, hospitals, and recreational facilities along the road corridor.
Nkambe Ndu StretchThe Ndu–Nkambe project is seen as part of President Paul Biya’s legacy in the region, and development experts have praised MAG Sarl’s model as one that “beats standards” and empowers communities. Scores of young people have been trained in heavy-duty equipment operation, while hundreds of millions of francs CFA have been paid out in indemnities to affected households.
Meanwhile, the Nkambe Council has launched a one-month road safety sensitisation campaign following concerns about reckless driving on newly tarred sections. Mayor Musa Shey Nfor warned that sanctions will follow after the grace period, stressing that “a safer road benefits everyone motorists, passengers and the community at large.”
As construction advances through the towns of Ndu, Mbiye, Mbot, Binka, Binshua and Nkambe, residents say the Ring Road is already transforming daily life. For many, the tarring of this stretch is more than infrastructure, it is a story of renewed hope, development, and connection across the North West Region.
