Mayor Peter Chenwi of Bamenda II Council has presented a review of development projects realized under his mandate and called on residents to actively participate in the October 12 presidential election, stressing the importance of consolidating gains made despite years of security challenges.

He also noted the near-completion of the social housing project aimed at providing affordable homes for low-income earners, and the construction of the Mile 90 market, which is now operational. Plans are also underway for a modern slaughterhouse to improve food safety and hygiene standards.
Other initiatives, the Mayor said, include the equipping of health centers, drilling of boreholes for water supply, and support to small and medium-sized enterprises to boost local employment.
The council has also provided assistance to traders, bike riders, and persons with disabilities. Mayor Chenwi credited the central government for maintaining public investment funding for councils in the crisis-hit North West Region, highlighting the Local Governance and Resilient Project (PROLOG), which is financing 25 projects worth CFA 625 million in Bamenda II.
Under the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development (PPRD), he said, agricultural businesses and poultry farmers have received start-up kits, inputs, and capital support to relaunch production.
The Mayor acknowledged that poor road infrastructure remains the municipality’s greatest challenge but expressed optimism following the recent visit of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute to Bamenda, during which major rehabilitation works were announced under the C2D project.
Looking to the future, Mayor Chenwi revealed that the council is building partnerships with Canadian municipalities to fund projects in renewable energy, youth and women empowerment, and local economic development.
While urging residents to remain vigilant and committed to peace, the Mayor encouraged them to participate fully in the upcoming presidential election, which he said will determine the pace of development in Bamenda II and beyond.
