In a landmark recognition of good governance, Nkambe Council has been awarded FCFA 50 million as one of the five best-performing councils in Cameroon for the execution of 2024 Public Investment Budget (PIB) projects.

The award ceremony, held on September 16, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé, was jointly presided over by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alamine Ousmane Mey; the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze; and the Minister of Public Contracts.

Nkambe has consistently ranked first in project execution within the North West Region for five consecutive years, demonstrating a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and community development.

The other winning councils included Idenau (South West), Ndelele (East), Nyambaka (Adamawa), and Peté (Far North), each also receiving FCFA 50 million to boost their local development efforts.

The award, part of the first-ever edition of the Model Councils Award, seeks to encourage municipalities across Cameroon to improve the management and execution of public investment projects, a critical component of the country’s decentralization drive.

“This initiative is about rewarding councils that deliver results for their citizens and setting a standard for others to emulate,” said Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey.

Observers say the recognition positions Nkambe Council as a benchmark for regional municipal governance, reinforcing its reputation as a leader in service delivery and grassroots development.
