The women’s wing of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in the North West Region has pledged united support for President Paul Biya in the October 12 presidential election, while calling for peace and renewed commitment to education in the conflict-affected region.

During a mega conference in Bamenda, Senator Elizabeth Regina Mundi, Acting Head of the CPDM Central Committee Permanent Regional Delegation for the Northwest, underscored the role of women in fostering peace and political victory.

“We, the women, must be the ones to work for peace in this region because, as women, we are the greatest losers when there is no peace,” Mundi declared. “To secure victory for President Paul Biya, we must be heard as one voice. Descending voices must disappear from amongst us.”

Focus on Education and Empowerment

The conference was marked by the distribution of school bags, exercise books, and didactic materials to mothers and children ahead of the new school year. In addition, scholarships worth 100,000 FCFA each were awarded to 28 meritorious students drawn from the seven divisions of the Northwest.

“This action demonstrates our interest in education and empowerment,” Senator Mundi said. “Education is the greatest weapon to build a better community, and mothers must ensure their children go back to school.”

Parents present expressed gratitude. Bella Palvine from Balikumbat said, “With this donation, my children will go back to school happily, and they will learn well.”

Ambe Patoline Bih from Bafut added that the support would ease the burden on families hosting displaced children.

Women as Pillars of Peace

Speakers stressed the disproportionate impact of the conflict on women and urged mothers to act as peace advocates. “Everywhere we go, it is only the tears of women being heard because all the children being killed are our children. Enough is enough,” Senator Regina Mundi said, appealing for grassroots efforts in homes, njangi groups, and communities to restore calm.

United Front Ahead of Elections

The Northwest CPDM women resolved to deliver “a 100 percent victory” for President Biya in the polls. Their motion emphasized peace as a prerequisite for political success and called on women to act as a collective force.

Using the metaphor of a bundle of brooms, Mundi reminded participants that unity is key: “When we are together, we cannot be destroyed. But divided, even a child can break us.”

As the region continues its slow recovery from years of conflict, the CPDM women framed their message around two central pillars: restoring peace and reviving education, while aligning behind the ruling party’s candidate.
