October 12 Poll: Atanga Nji Warns Political Parties: “You Can’t Win with Representation in 3 of 58 Divisions”

Atanga Nji Paul, Minisiter of Territorial Administration.

Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of Territorial Administration, has cautioned political parties and candidates ahead of the October 12 presidential election, reminding them that electoral strength is tied to national representation.

Speaking during a high-level security evaluation meeting in Bertoua on September 22, 2025, the Minister stressed that parties with limited presence across Cameroon’s 58 administrative divisions should temper expectations.

“Each candidate knows his or her strength, and the people know too. If you have political representation in five divisions out of 58, you don’t expect to win an election. If your political party is represented in three divisions out of 58, you don’t expect to win. It is important for everyone to know what is at stake and be responsible in public pronouncements,” Atanga Nji said.

Security, Order, and Electoral Integrity

The meeting brought together the Governor of the East Region, Grégoire Owona, Senior Divisional Officers, Divisional Officers, and the East Regional Delegate of ELECAM.

Minister Atanga Nji reported that, based on information from the governor, the security situation in the East Region is “under control.”

He nevertheless urged administrative and security authorities to remain vigilant and guarantee maximum peace before, during, and after the polls.

“ELECAM is an independent body organizing elections, but administrative and security officials must accompany ELECAM to ensure the secure delivery of electoral materials throughout the national territory,” the Minister emphasized.

Call for Responsible Politics

Atanga Nji also appealed to all political actors to respect electoral rules and abide by the nation’s laws. He warned that any attempts to disrupt the electoral process would not be tolerated.

“Any political actor with grievances should use the legal channels to file complaints. There will be zero tolerance for disorder,” he declared.

ELECAM Readiness

During the meeting, the East Regional Delegate of ELECAM provided details on preparations for the upcoming presidential election, reaffirming that logistics and personnel are in place to ensure a smooth vote.

The Minister concluded by reiterating that the ultimate goal is for Cameroon itself to emerge victorious. “We should be talking about the triumph of democracy after these elections. Cameroon should be the winner,” he said.
