The usually quiet town of Wabane in Lebialem Division was a sea of CPDM colours on Saturday, September 20, 2025, as Minister Paul Tasong led a massive mobilization drive ahead of the October 12 presidential election.

Tasong, who doubles as Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) in charge of Planning, chaired the Joint CPDM Section Conference for Lebialem I, II, and III Sections. The event drew thousands of party militants, traditional rulers, elites, and grassroots supporters eager to reaffirm their loyalty to the ruling party.

“Give Biya a Resounding Victory”

Addressing the gathering, Minister Tasong, widely regarded as the CPDM heavyweight in Lebialem, urged the population to deliver an overwhelming victory for President Paul Biya at the polls.

“The only way to thank the Head of State for all he has done and continues to do for Lebialem is to give him a landslide victory on October 12,” Tasong declared, receiving a thunderous ovation from the crowd.

Development, Peace, and Education

Beyond politics, the minister used the occasion to deliver what he called a “message of hope” for the Division, pledging concrete improvements to infrastructure and livelihoods.

“Electricity will come to every household in Lebialem Division,” he assured, promising that road networks would soon be accessible year-round to boost trade and mobility.

Tasong also stressed the importance of peace and education, calling for the reopening of schools that have remained shut since the onset of the crisis in the English-speaking regions.

“We are back because we want to make sure schools in Lebialem are open and children are going to school. This is what President Paul Biya wants. He wants a Lebialem that is back,” he said.

Support for Farmers

In a move aimed at boosting local agriculture, the minister distributed farm inputs to participants, underscoring the government’s commitment to increase productivity and improve food security in the Division.

Enthusiastic Reception

Participants at the joint conference praised Minister Tasong for his efforts in bringing the people together to talk peace, development, and politics in one forum.

Many pledged to turn out in their numbers on election day to renew Lebialem’s loyalty to President Biya.

Observers say the conference not only re-energized CPDM structures in Lebialem but also served as a platform to reassure the population that government development promises are being taken seriously.
