PAP Applauds Akere Muna’s “Statesmanlike” Move, Rallies Behind Bello Bouba for 2025

Njine Elvis Baneh, Secretary General of PAP.

The Popular Action Party (PAP) has hailed Barrister Akere Muna’s decision to throw his weight behind Bello Bouba Maigari as a “courageous and visionary” act aimed at uniting the opposition and paving the way for political change in Cameroon’s upcoming presidential election.

In a press statement signed Monday September 29, 2025, by PAP National Secretary General Njine Elvis Baneh, the party described Akere Muna’s move as “a powerful demonstration of conviction” and an act of genuine statesmanship that puts the nation’s interest above personal ambition.

“A genuine leader is one who knows when to step back for the greater good, and Barrister Akere Muna has proven to be that leader,” the PAP statement read.

The PAP acknowledged that Bello Bouba Maigari may not be the first choice for every Cameroonian, but emphasized that the decision was reached after deep consultations, with a singular objective to end the 43-year rule of President Paul Biya.

“We call on all patriots to have confidence in the choice made by their leaders, a leadership that remains accountable to the people and is driven by the mandate to secure our collective liberation and freedom from over four decades of bad governance, corruption, insecurity, tribalism, untold misery and suffering,” the party said.

According to PAP, Akere Muna is bringing into the coalition his well-known Eight Pillars of Good Governance, which include institutional reform, anti-corruption measures, and addressing key issues such as dual nationality, federalism, and youth and women’s representation in leadership. These, the party insists, will form the coalition’s policy foundation, ensuring that the alliance is based on principles rather than personalities.

Calling for unity, PAP urged all Cameroonians to resist divisive narratives, collect their voter cards, and turn out massively at the polls.

“The path to change is through the ballot box,” the statement urged, before extending a hand to other opposition candidates, civil society actors, and opinion leaders to join what the party described as the only credible route to victory.

The statement concluded with a rallying cry to come together and stand under one umbrella and defeat a common enemy. “Cameroonians, remember that our freedom, our liberation, is in our hands. The winning ticket is: Akere – Bello – Ateki.”
