PM Dion Ngute Rallies South West, Warns of “Disaster” if Biya Loses

Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, has called on the people of the South West Region to deliver an overwhelming victory for President Paul Biya in the October 12 presidential election, warning that anything short of a landslide could jeopardize the region’s political and economic gains.

Speaking before a jammed-packed crowd at the CPDM’s regional campaign launch in Buea, Dion Ngute left no room for doubt that the South West’s future, in his view, is tied to Biya’s continued stay in power.

“Politics is a game of interest,” the Prime Minister declared to thunderous applause. “And President Biya has the interest of the South West at heart. If we fail to give him victory, the privileges and developmental projects we enjoy today will be at risk.”

Biya as “Guarantee of Development”

The PM listed what he described as “tangible proof” of Biya’s commitment to the region: the reconstruction of SONARA after the 2019 fire, the Kumba Gas Plant, government representation at the highest levels, and ongoing plans for the Limbe Deep Seaport, the Bekoko–Idenau Road, and the rehabilitation of Tiko Airport.

He was categorical in dismissing rumours that SONARA was being relocated. “The very fact that reconstruction is ongoing here proves that SONARA remains an infrastructure of the South West,” he insisted.

Dion Ngute’s message was as much a warning as it was a rallying cry. “If someone else comes to power, the consequences for this region will be disastrous,” he said, calling on party loyalists to go “door-to-door” to ensure a massive turnout on voting day.

“Biya Made Me His Legs”

In a moment that electrified the crowd, the PM addressed criticism that Biya is too old to govern effectively. “Those of you who are cocoa farmers,” he asked, “do you cut down a cocoa tree simply because it is old?” The crowd roared back: “No!”
He then added, “President Biya has made me his legs, so that where he cannot go, I will go. And I have come to Buea to tell you that he is counting on you.”

Party Heavyweights Call for Mobilization

The event also featured a rousing speech from Senator Nfor Tabetando, Interim head of the CPDM Regional Permanent Delegation for the South West, who reminded militants that the region had sent multiple motions of support to Biya, urging him to stand again.

“He has played his part by accepting your call,” Senator Tabetando said. “The ball is now in our court to deliver a resounding victory. No two elections are the same, so we must not sleep on our laurels.”

CPDM campaign strategist and Director of the CPDM Academy, Prof. Elvis Ngole Ngole unveiled a plan heavily focused on youth mobilization and social media outreach, promising a grassroots, house-to-house approach designed to energize first-time voters and women.

CPDM Betting on Landslide

With less than three weeks to the polls, the ruling party is clearly aiming for more than just a win it is seeking a crushing mandate to silence dissent and reinforce its dominance.

Dion Ngute’s fiery rhetoric in Buea underscored the stakes: the CPDM is positioning itself not merely as a party seeking re-election, but as the sole guarantor of peace, development, and stability in the South West.

Whether the region’s voters will respond with the landslide the Prime Minister is demanding will be revealed on October 12, but for now, Buea has been firmly set ablaze with the “Orange Wave” of the ruling party.
