Agbor Balla Endorses Issa Tchiroma, Calls for a National Rebirth Anchored in Justice and Reconciliation

In a statement that has sent ripples across Cameroon’s political landscape, Barrister Nkongho Felix Agbor Balla, President of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), has formally endorsed Mr. Issa Tchiroma Bakary for the presidency ahead of the October 12, 2025 election.

Issued in Garoua on October 10, 2025, the prominent human rights advocate described Cameroon’s political moment as “a crossroads between the politics of division and the promise of renewal,” emphasizing that his endorsement transcends partisan lines and reflects a moral commitment to dialogue, inclusion, and national reconciliation.

“A Courageous and Humane Act of Leadership”

Barrister Agbor Balla praised Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s recent public apology to the Anglophone community, calling it “a courageous and humane act of leadership.”

According to him, the apology marked a rare moment of humility and self-reflection in Cameroon’s political history, an acknowledgment of the pain and marginalization that have fueled mistrust and division for decades.

“Mr. Tchiroma’s apology was not merely symbolic,” Agbor Balla stated. “It was a gesture that transcended politics and spoke directly to the conscience of our nation. It reflected humility and moral clarity, qualities that our political culture desperately needs.”

He went on to note that Tchiroma’s proposal for a transitional government stands as a bold and pragmatic vision for a nation in need of healing. “His plan for a limited transitional mandate demonstrates that this is not a quest for power, but a call for restoration, the rebuilding of trust, governance, and the social contract between the people and the state,” he added.

A Vision Rooted in Reconciliation and Reform

The human rights lawyer based in the South West region emphasized that his endorsement was anchored in principles of justice, dialogue, and institutional renewal. He argued that Cameroon’s path to peace and prosperity depends not on political slogans but on truth, accountability, and systemic reform.

“Cameroon cannot move forward without truth and accountability,” Agbor Balla said. “We must rebuild our institutions, restore trust, and ensure that citizenship means justice and opportunity for all.”

He called on all Cameroonians to see the upcoming election not as a continuation of entrenched divisions, but as a chance for national rebirth, a moment to embrace unity in diversity and to choose leadership that places the collective good above partisan gain.

Beyond Politics: A Call for Moral Renewal

Barrister Agbor Balla, known for his principled stance on democracy and human rights, underscored that his decision to support Issa Tchiroma Bakary is based on shared ideals, not political allegiance.

“My endorsement is not partisan,” he clarified. “It is anchored in the conviction that our country’s salvation lies in dialogue, inclusion, and the moral courage to admit past wrongs and chart a new path forward.”

He urged voters across the country to cast their ballots guided by hope, humility, and humanity. “This election offers us more than a political contest,” he said. “It offers us a chance to begin a national rebirth rooted in justice, unity, and shared destiny.”

A Moment for Reflection and Renewal

As Cameroon approaches the polls, Agbor Balla’s endorsement adds a significant moral weight to Issa Tchiroma’s campaign, framing it as a movement for reconciliation and transformation rather than partisan ambition. His message resonates with citizens yearning for peace, transparency, and a more inclusive national dialogue after years of tension and mistrust.

“Our nation’s renewal begins with choices rooted in hope,” he concluded. “This election is one of such moment, a moment for Cameroon to rise above division and choose a future guided by truth, humility, and humanity.”
