The Member of Parliament for Nkambe Central Constituency, Hon. Ngala Gerard, has once again demonstrated his reputation as one of Cameroon’s most influential voices for peace and national unity.

Addressing hundreds of Anglophones from the North West and South West Regions resident in Douala on Sunday, October 5, Hon. Ngala rallied the community to stand firmly behind President Paul Biya in the upcoming October 12 presidential election.

The gathering, which took place in the economic capital, brought together traditional authorities, political elites, business leaders, and youths from both English-speaking regions. It was described as a powerful demonstration of solidarity, gratitude, and renewed trust in the Head of State’s leadership.

“We Must Not Be Misled Again”

In his keynote address, Hon. Ngala Gerard cautioned the population against the manipulation and false promises that, he said, once plunged their regions into turmoil.

“In 2016, many of our brothers and sisters were deceived by separatist propaganda. The result was instability, fear, and displacement. Douala became home to thousands who fled violence. We must not repeat that mistake,” Hon. Ngala warned.

He called on the Anglophone community in Douala to “make a wise choice” by voting massively for President Biya, whom he described as “the architect of peace and national integration.”

“Peace is the foundation of business, education, and community life. Only peace can guarantee a future for our children. That is why we must stand behind President Biya, the man who has preserved Cameroon’s unity through turbulent times,” the lawmaker emphasized.
Mayors Join the Call for Stability

The meeting was also attended by several top municipal officials. The Mayor of Douala IV, Dr. Hervé Moby Mpah, underscored the need for solidarity and cohesion, urging the community to ensure a “100 percent victory” for President Biya.

“Unity among the people of the North West and South West Regions in Douala is essential for transparent and inclusive elections,” he stated.

On his part, the City Mayor of Douala, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, praised President Biya’s leadership for maintaining peace and guiding Cameroon’s steady progress.

“Peace has made Douala the thriving commercial and educational hub it is today. It is our collective duty to protect that legacy and continue building together,” Dr. Mbassa Ndine declared, calling on the Anglophone population to regard Douala as their “second home.”

Traditional Leaders Advocate for Peace

Also speaking during the event, Fon Ju Wilson of Koshing, Menchum Division, reminded the audience that “there can be no development without peace.” He described President Biya as “the leader who best embodies the balance between unity and progress,” urging continued loyalty to his leadership.

The gathering ended with cultural performances celebrating the shared identity and resilience of Cameroon’s English-speaking population.

Hon. Ngala: Peace Crusader and National Unity Champion

Hon. Ngala Gerard’s leadership in fostering peace and coexistence has become a defining element of his political career. Barely three weeks earlier, on September 14, he spearheaded what observers described as a historic peace pact between North Westerners in Douala and the Ngondo community.

That event, the “Ngondo Caravan for Peace” held at the Din Same Esplanade in Bonassama, Douala IV, symbolized a renewed bond between the peoples of the coast and the grassfields.

Thousands attended the ceremony, during which Hon. Ngala emphasized that peace and unity must prevail before, during, and after the presidential election.

Recalling the violence of 2008, the MP warned against allowing Douala to become a theatre for political unrest.

“Let us not betray our hosts or associate with forces of destruction. Cameroon and Douala are our collective heritage, preserving them is our shared responsibility,” he told the cheering crowd.

Hon. Ngala also lauded the Ngondo community for their legendary hospitality, noting that more than 500,000 North Westerners now reside in the Littoral Region.
“Our bond with Douala is built on mutual respect, peace, and progress. That is the legacy we must protect,” he affirmed.

As the October 12 polls draw closer, Hon. Ngala Gerard’s message remains consistent: peace, gratitude, and collective responsibility. For him, the surest path to stability and national harmony is to stand united behind President Paul Biya the man he calls “the guarantor of Cameroon’s peace and future.”
