The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) demonstrated its strength in Menchum on Tuesday, September 30, as hundreds of militants and sympathizers thronged the Wum Grandstand for the official launch of campaigns ahead of the October 12 presidential election.
Hon. Wallang Richard, Addressing Hundreds of CPDM Militants and Sympathizers
The event, presided over by Hon. Wallang Richard Ebua, Divisional Campaign Team President, alongside Mayor Dighambong Anthony Mvo, Central Committee envoy Hon. Nji Fidelis Muh-Ziah, and other senior party figures, was marked by resounding pledges of loyalty to President Paul Biya, described by militants as the “natural candidate” for Menchum.
“Victory Is Certain in Wum”
Setting the tone for the campaign, Mayor Dighambong Anthony Mvo outlined the strategy to secure the division’s vote. He stressed that the team would prioritize proximity campaigns over mass rallies.
“Our strategies are centered on grassroots engagement,” he said. “We are working to identify potential voters inclined towards the CPDM and meeting them directly. The certainty of Wum’s readiness to deliver quality results for President Paul Biya is beyond doubt.”
Mayor Dighambong urged the population to rally behind a candidate “whose experience and vision for the future have already transformed lives in Menchum.”
Youths and Women Take the Stage
The youth and women’s wings of the party pledged to play a central role in mobilization. The YCPDM of Menchum I announced a determined effort to get all young voters on board, while Fungsen Patricia Mbie, WCPDM President for Menchum I, electrified the crowd by recounting the Head of State’s achievements in education, health, and infrastructure, urging women to translate gratitude into votes.
Wallang Richard Ebua: “Paul Biya Is Our Natural Candidate”
In his keynote address, Hon. Wallang Richard Ebua galvanized militants with a blend of political conviction and cultural symbolism. He recalled the moment when North West traditional rulers conferred the honorary title of “Fon of Fons” on President Biya, insisting that such recognition bound the people to honor him.
“Since the crisis began in 2016, President Paul Biya has always been there for us,” he declared. “Once made Fon of Fons, it is for life. As respecters of our culture, we cannot turn our backs on our Fons. By extension, we cannot turn our backs on President Paul Biya.”
He dismissed rival candidates as “promising heaven without the means to deliver,” contrasting them with Biya’s record of tangible development. “We see schools, health centers, electricity, and roads because of him. He is not perfect, but he has delivered,” Wallang said, stressing that the division is ready to return a 100% vote for the CPDM.
Projects as Proof of Loyalty
Beyond speeches, much of the enthusiasm in Wum centered on ongoing and promised projects. Both Hon. Wallang and Mayor Dighambong highlighted the Bamenda–Wum road, which has received direct presidential instructions for tarring. “It is our dying wish to see this road realized, and that is why we are voting Paul Biya to continue what he started,” the mayor affirmed.
He revealed that quarter-level campaign teams were being put in place to aggressively mobilize voters at the grassroots, avoiding the pitfalls of show rallies. “Politics is not by word of mouth but by action,” he told reporters. “Our actions in Wum speak for themselves.”
“A Mandate of Gratitude and Hope”
Central Committee representative Hon. Nji Fidelis Muh-Ziah praised the turnout as a sign of unshakable loyalty. “I am proud of the militants here today. The mobilization was massive, the commitment is clear, and the hope for development is alive,” he said.
Also present, Senator Emeritus Wallang David Akwo joined other senior militants in reminding the population that their vote for Paul Biya is a vote for stability and continued development in Menchum.
Looking Ahead to October 12
From women’s groups to traditional leaders, from quarter campaign teams to the central party hierarchy, the message from Wum was united: Menchum is firmly behind Paul Biya.
As Hon. Wallang Richard Ebua summed it up:
“We have only one tested and trusted candidate, President Paul Biya. He is our Fon of Fons, our leader, and our guarantee of progress. On October 12, Menchum will speak with one voice.”
