Joshua Osih Denounces “Malicious Disinformation,” Launches Legal Action Over 1Billion Claim

Hon. Joshia Osih, SDF National Chairman.

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) and its National Chairman, Hon. Joshua Osih, have condemned in the strongest terms what they describe as a “deliberate campaign of disinformation” following the spread of a viral video accusing several presidential candidates of receiving illicit payments from the Government of Cameroon.

In a statement issued on October 14, 2025, from the party’s National Secretariat, the SDF dismissed as “completely false, defamatory, and devoid of any factual basis” allegations made by one John Mbah Akuroh in a video posted on the Ambazonian Communication Network Facebook page and widely circulated on messaging platforms.

According to the video, the government purportedly transferred one billion CFA francs to four presidential candidates to prevent the formation of a post-election coalition and to encourage their recognition of President Paul Biya as the victor of the October 12 presidential election.

“A Calculated Attempt to Mislead the Public”

The SDF denounced the video as “a deliberate act of manipulation intended to mislead public opinion and discredit both the electoral process and the political actors committed to a democratic and republican path.”

“This defamatory publication has caused serious harm to the honor and reputation of Hon. Joshua Osih and the Social Democratic Front,” the communiqué stated, adding that its circulation may have had “a direct and damaging impact on the conduct and outcome of the election.”

Osih and the SDF leadership urged Cameroonians to remain vigilant, avoid amplifying false content, and rely solely on verified information from official channels.

Legal Proceedings in the U.S. and Cameroon

In response to the allegations, the SDF has initiated legal action in both Cameroon and the State of Maryland (USA) against John Mbah Akuroh, whom the party accuses of orchestrating the smear campaign.
The statement underscored that under national and international law, those who create, sponsor, or share false information bear legal responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

“The spread of false information engages not only the responsibility of its authors and sponsors, but also of anyone who relays it,” the SDF warned.

A Call for Truth and National Responsibility

At a moment of heightened political tension, Osih appealed for collective restraint and civic maturity.

“Cameroon is at a decisive moment in its democratic journey,” the SDF leader declared. “It is the duty of every citizen to safeguard peace, truth, and the dignity of public discourse.”

Background

Hon. Joshua Osih, who represented the SDF in the October 12 presidential election, has consistently advocated a politics rooted in integrity and transparency. In recent statements, he accepted the verdict of the ballot while reaffirming his party’s commitment to democratic reform and institutional credibility.

The latest controversy underscores growing concerns about the weaponization of social media and disinformation in Cameroon’s political arena.

As the country awaits the Constitutional Council’s official proclamation of election results, the SDF’s stance positions it as a defender of truth, legality, and responsible civic engagement.
