Hon. Abe Michael, Member of Parliament for the Ako/Misaje constituency, has been killed by his captors days after being abducted in the North West Region.
The lawmaker was kidnapped on Friday, October 13, in Ndu Subdivision in Donga Mantung Division while returning from electoral duties, shortly after participating in the October 12 presidential elections.
His abductors, believed to be separatist fighters, had reportedly demanded a ransom of FCFA 15 million for his release.
According to reports, Hon. Abe Michael’s body was discovered earlier this week, marking a tragic end to days of tense negotiations and growing public concern over his fate.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but security sources confirm that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Hon. Abe Michael was widely respected in the Ako/Misaje constituency for his efforts to promote development and peace amid the ongoing Anglophone crisis.
The killing underscores the continued insecurity and volatility in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions, where separatist violence has claimed thousands of lives since 2017.
