The Social Democratic Front (SDF) presidential candidate, Hon. Chief Osih Joshua Nambangi, staged a landmark campaign rally in Kumba on Sunday, September 28, drawing hundreds of supporters from across Meme Division in what many described as a homecoming for the opposition leader.

The rally marked the SDF’s second major outing since launching its campaign trail in Bamenda on September 27, the birthplace of the party. In Kumba, however, the event carried added symbolism.

Hon. Osih, whose father once served as pastor at the Presbyterian Church Kumba Mbeng, told the crowd that returning to the city was less about politics and more about reconnecting with family and roots.

“You don’t campaign when you are with your family. I came here for blessings, and to remind you that power must return to the people,” Osih declared to thunderous applause.

A Platform of Change

Osih used the rally to roll out key aspects of his presidential program, placing education, healthcare, and governance reform at the center of his message. He pledged free education for children from pre-nursery to high school, free healthcare for all citizens, and the establishment of a federal system of government to better reflect Cameroon’s diversity.

“The system needs to change. I am the candidate who can deliver the change that Cameroonians have long been yearning for,” he emphasized.

Faith Before Politics

Earlier in the day, Osih worshipped at the Presbyterian Church Kumba Mbeng, where his late father, Rev. Osih, once ministered. Addressing the congregation, he made clear that he had not come to politicize the service but to worship. “The sermon was inspiring and impactful,” he said, thanking the church for allowing him to reconnect with his spiritual roots before heading to the campaign grounds.

Taking the Message Beyond Kumba

After the Kumba rally, the SDF leader and his delegation moved to Konye Subdivision, where he urged voters to take their destinies into their own hands on October 12. He called on them not only to vote overwhelmingly for the SDF but also to remain vigilant in protecting their votes.
Supporters in Konye responded with chants of solidarity, pledging their full support for Osih and the SDF.

Strong Team Support

Osih was flanked at the Kumba event by Njong Donatus, the party’s Secretary General, and Chief John Kona Makia, SDF Regional Coordinator for the South West. Both officials praised the enthusiasm of the Meme population and described the rally as proof that the SDF remains a force to reckon with in Cameroonian politics.

As the October 12 presidential election draws closer, the Kumba rally underscored both the emotional and political weight of Osih’s campaign. To his supporters, it was not just a rally, but a powerful reminder that their son had returned home with a promise of change.
