In a time of heightened national tension, Omam Esther, a Global Peace Champion and Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon, has made an appeal for calm, dialogue, and collective wisdom, a message resonating deeply across Cameroon. Her words come as the nation grapples with unrest, grief, and the urgent cry for reform.
“Well done Mbouda, Njombe, parts of Douala, Bertoua, and other localities where administrative authorities and members of our defense and security forces have chosen to engage citizens in dialogue,” Omam Esther said in a statement widely shared online. “These acts of restraint and humanity give hope, reminding us that even in moments of deep pain, dialogue remains our strongest path forward.”
Her message acknowledges the legitimate frustrations driving many Cameroonians to the streets, anger at injustice, inequality, and the yearning for transparent governance. Yet, she warns against the spiral of violence that often follows, urging citizens to reject destruction as a means of expression.
“We know that people are angry. We know that hearts are bleeding,” she said. “The nation yearns for change, for genuine reforms that will strengthen justice, fairness, and trust in our systems, including our electoral processes. But lasting change cannot grow from anger, looting, killing, or destruction.”
Omam Esther’s call strikes a rare tone of balance in a polarized environment, addressing both state authorities and the citizenry. To the country’s defense and security forces, she appealed for restraint, patience, and empathy, insisting that engagement, not repression, will restore public confidence. To protesters, she extended the same moral challenge for them to stand firm in their convictions but express grievances peacefully and responsibly, upholding the dignity of every human life.
“Let us remember that all lives matter. Every Cameroonian in uniform or in civil attire deserves to live in safety, dignity, and peace.”
Her statement concludes with a message of unity and moral courage, a plea for the nation to rediscover its shared humanity at a time when fear and division threaten to overshadow it.
“May our words bring healing, not harm. May our actions build, not destroy. May this moment of trial become a turning point, where wisdom silences anger and love for our country triumphs over fear and division. Come, let us reason together for peace, for justice, for Cameroon.”
