The Popular Action Party (PAP) has issued an urgent national appeal calling on Cameroon’s key electoral and administrative institutions to uphold the sovereign will of the people following the October 12 presidential election.
In a statement signed by its National President, Njang Denis Tabe, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the party stressed that the moment demands “the highest standard of political maturity” and a collective commitment to protect the integrity of the people’s vote.
“We have an opportunity to show the continent and the world that democratic expression, once delivered, is sacrosanct and irrevocable,” the PAP leader declared.
A Call for Institutional Integrity
The communiqué, titled “Upholding the Sovereign Will of the People,” specifically urged Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), the Constitutional Council, and the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MINAT) to demonstrate impartiality and transparency in the handling of final results.
“Irrespective of the ultimate direction the results sway, this is a unique chance for these vital bodies to not just respect the sovereign will expressed through the ballot, but also to write their names in the sands of time in bold, indelible marks of honour and integrity,” the statement read.
The PAP reminded authorities that Cameroon is a State of Law, and any manipulation or distortion of results would be “a violation of foundational democratic principles” capable of provoking a restive population whose “democratic desires have been clearly articulated.”
Citizens Praised for Maturity and Calm
The Popular Action Party commended Cameroonians for their exemplary conduct during what it described as a “highly charged electoral season.”
“The people’s patience, calmness, and resilience are a testament to the patriotic depth of our nation,” PAP said, while calling on citizens to remain vigilant as the post-election process unfolds.
The party also extended its message to the security and defence forces, urging them to protect the general good rather than serve partisan interests.
“We all have the herculean task of uplifting the tenets of patriotism and defending what is now glaringly clear, the expressed will of the people,” the PAP President said.
Echoes of 1992
In a pointed historical reminder, PAP warned against any repeat of past electoral controversies, referencing the disputed 1992 presidential election.
“Cameroonians have not forgotten 1992,” the communiqué cautioned. “The determination displayed in 2025 shows a population that is resolute in expressing its wish democratically and ready to defend that will.”
For the Nation, Democracy, and the People
Concluding its message, the PAP National President emphasized that the legitimacy of the next government must be “beyond reproach,” urging all stakeholders to ensure that the final proclamation of results truly reflects the ballots cast.
“The fate of our national cohesion rests upon the sincerity and transparency of the final announcement,” the statement concluded.
Signed under the party’s guiding motto, “Peace, Work, Justice”, the communiqué positioned PAP as one of the earliest political voices to publicly call for restraint, transparency, and respect for democratic norms in the aftermath of Cameroon’s 2025 presidential poll.
