Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of Nido sachet milk from markets nationwide following concerns about the product’s conformity with safety standards.

According to the minister, one-third of the samples brought to the attention of authorities showed irregularities, prompting urgent investigations to ensure the protection of consumers, particularly children.

“In the absence of detailed information, and in line with our responsibility to guarantee public safety, I have instructed the preventive removal of the product until ongoing investigations are concluded and conformity is confirmed,” Dr. Manaouda announced.

The minister advised the public to refrain from consuming Nido sachet milk until further notice and called on citizens to remain vigilant. He urged anyone experiencing unusual reactions or digestive problems suspected to be linked to the product to report to the nearest health facility immediately.

While reassuring consumers of the government’s commitment to transparency, Dr. Manaouda pledged that updates on the situation would be communicated in real time. He emphasized that the ban could either be lifted once the product is cleared or lead to its permanent replacement on the market.

“The protection of children’s health remains our utmost priority,” the minister affirmed, adding that no risks would be tolerated when it comes to consumer safety.

The announcement has sparked reactions from parents and consumer rights groups, many of whom welcomed the government’s swift preventive action, even as they await the results of the investigations.
