The National Union for Democracy and Progress (UNDP), led by Bello Bouba Maïgari, has officially recognized the victory of Issa Tchiroma Bakary, candidate of the National Salvation Front of Cameroon (FSNC), in the October 12, 2025 presidential election.

In a communiqué issued from its Yaoundé headquarters on Tuesday, October 14, the UNDP stated that it had “followed with keen interest the electoral process and the vote counting” and that, based on reports from its representatives across the national territory, “the results indicate the victory of the FSNC.”

The party therefore extended its “sincere and heartfelt congratulations” to Issa Tchiroma Bakary for what it described as a “well-deserved success.”

UNDP Commends Peaceful Elections and Democratic Maturity

The statement praised the calm atmosphere that marked the election and the democratic spirit of the Cameroonian people.

“We salute the peaceful conduct of the elections and the democratic choice of the Cameroonian people,” the communiqué reads.

The UNDP, one of Cameroon’s oldest political parties and a former ally of the ruling coalition, emphasized that the outcome reflects the people’s will and called for national cohesion in the post-election period.

Commitment to Work With the New Leadership

Looking ahead, the UNDP reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the FSNC government to advance peace, stability, and inclusive development.

“Conscious of the immense challenges facing our country, the UNDP, true to its values and experience, expresses its willingness to work hand in hand with the FSNC for the building of a united and prosperous Cameroon,” the statement continues.

The communiqué, signed by Flambeau Ngayap, spokesperson for the UNDP candidate Bello Bouba Maïgari, also underscored the party’s continued commitment to “constructive cooperation and good governance centered on the well-being of the population, in full respect of national institutions and constitutional order.”

A Call for Unity and Stability

The party concluded by reaffirming its engagement in the service of peace and sustainable development.

“The UNDP remains committed, in a spirit of constructive cooperation, to the strengthening of peace and the sustainable development of our beloved country, Cameroon.”

Political observers say the UNDP’s early recognition of Issa Tchiroma’s victory could signal a shift in alliances and a new phase of political cooperation between the two parties, especially as the post-election environment remains tense in parts of the country.
