As Cameroon intensifies preparations for the October 12 presidential election, Yah Judith Achidi, General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) and Head of the CPDM campaign team for the United States, Canada, and Brazil, has called on Cameroonians in the diaspora to stand united behind President Paul Biya, describing him as “a symbol of peace, progress, and continuity.”
Speaking at a massive rally organized by CPDM militants in New York City, Yah Judith Achidi emphasized that the diaspora remains a vital pillar in the country’s development agenda and a critical voice in shaping Cameroon’s democratic future.
“The Cameroonian diaspora is close to the heart of President Paul Biya,” she told the cheering crowd. “He values your contributions, your talents, and your unwavering patriotism. This campaign is not just about votes, it is about reaffirming our collective commitment to stability and national unity.”
A Message of Gratitude and Mobilization
In her remarks, Yah Judith, who also serves as a senior political strategist within the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), extended heartfelt appreciation to party militants in the United States, Canada, and Brazil for their dedication to the CPDM cause, despite the challenges of organizing abroad.
“Your resilience and loyalty are deeply appreciated,” she said. “You have continued to keep the flame of the party burning brightly, even in foreign lands. Your work strengthens our democracy and our identity as one people, one nation.”
The campaign head called on militants and sympathizers to intensify voter education and mobilization in the final week before the polls, assuring them that the CPDM’s victory will secure Cameroon’s path to modernization and social harmony.
Reaffirming President Biya’s Legacy and Vision
Yah Judith Achidi underscored that President Biya’s track record from major infrastructure investments to peacebuilding initiatives stands as a testament to his long-term vision for Cameroon’s growth.
“President Paul Biya has invested in the future in telecommunications, roads, energy, education, and agriculture,” she noted. “His leadership has laid the foundation for the digital transformation that CAMTEL and other state enterprises are now advancing.”
Speaking in her capacity as General Manager of CAMTEL, she highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding digital inclusion through broadband infrastructure, submarine cable projects, and rural connectivity.
“Today, CAMTEL is connecting Cameroonians across regions and beyond borders,” she said. “We are building the digital backbone that will empower our youth, our entrepreneurs, and our institutions. This progress is possible because of the Head of State’s vision for a modern, connected Cameroon.”
Addressing the Anglophone Crisis and National Cohesion
Turning to the ongoing socio-political tensions in the North West and South West regions, Yah Judith expressed empathy for affected communities. She reiterated the government’s resolve to restore peace and normalcy.
“The Head of State has never turned his back on our brothers and sisters in the North West and South West,” she said. “He has opened the door for dialogue, reconciliation, and reconstruction. Violence and division can never be the path forward only peace and collective responsibility can.”
She praised the Presidential Reconstruction Plan and ongoing rehabilitation projects in the affected regions, noting that “each classroom rebuilt, each bridge restored, and each youth empowered is a sign of renewed hope.”
Government’s Outreach to the Diaspora
Yah Judith Achidi also highlighted President Biya’s continuous efforts to engage the Cameroonian diaspora, recalling key reforms and programs designed to facilitate their participation in national development: The 2011 Law enabling Cameroonians abroad to vote in national elections.
The National Strategy for Mobilizing the Diaspora (2025–2027), developed in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Dias’Invest 237 Initiative and PARIJEDI Program, which support diaspora entrepreneurship and youth reintegration.
Recent fiscal incentives encourage diaspora-led investment in priority sectors such as technology, agriculture, and renewable energy.
“Cameroonians abroad must not limit themselves to sending remittances,” she urged. “You are innovators, investors, and ambassadors of our country’s transformation.”
A Call for Peace, Unity, and Continuity
As the rally concluded, Yah Judith Achidi called on all Cameroonians in the diaspora to maintain faith in the leadership of President Paul Biya and to translate that confidence into a decisive vote on October 12, 2025.
“In a world of growing uncertainty, Cameroon’s strength lies in stability and experience,” she declared.
“President Biya remains the steady hand guiding our nation toward peace, prosperity, and digital transformation. Let us give him the resounding mandate he deserves.”
She was accompanied at the event by Dr. Thomas Monono, CPDM Chargé de Mission for the Americas, and other senior party officials who echoed the same message of peace, progress, and patriotism.
The New York event wrapped up a weeklong campaign tour that also took the delegation to Toronto, Montreal, and São Paulo, where the message remained consistent: Cameroon’s future is one of continuity, innovation, and unity under the leadership of President Paul Biya.
