Cameroon penitentiary authorities have issued an official escape and search notice following the disappearance of detainee Fabrice Lena, also identified in administrative records as Fabrice Vavemi, who fled custody on December 12, 2025, according to documents from the Douala Central Prison.
The notice, released by the Regional Delegation of Penitentiary Administration for the Littoral under the Ministry of Justice, states that Lena escaped while being returned to prison after a court appearance at the Court of First Instance of Douala-Bonanjo. He was reportedly under escort by an officer of the penitentiary guard corps when the escape occurred.
Born on August 23, 1994, in Baligham village in Santa Subdivision in Mezam Division, the suspect is a Cameroonian national and a self-described consultant residing in Yaoundé, Biyem-Assi. Prison authorities describe him as dark-skinned, with a prominent forehead, a very flat nose, brown eyes, thick lips, a square chin, and ears close to the head.
Lena had been incarcerated since November 5, 2025, under reference number 3974/PH2025, on charges related to the use of forged public and authentic documents, a case pending before the Douala-Bonanjo court. Officials stress that he remains a detainee awaiting trial and is therefore presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Following the escape, the prison registry ordered all relevant security units to be on alert. Copies of the notice were circulated to police commissariats, gendarmerie brigades, airport security services, and intelligence units across Douala and beyond, signaling a nationwide effort to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
In its statement dated December 16, 2025, the prison administration called on law enforcement officers to arrest and return Lena to Douala Central Prison should he be found. Members of the public with information regarding his whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest police or gendarmerie unit.
