The Azire Cooperative Credit Union Limited (AziCCUL) emerged as one of the most celebrated institutions at the 10th Anniversary of the Cameroon Media Award of Excellence, organized by the Cameroon Climate Journalism Network (CCJN) on World Soil Day, Friday, December 5, 2025.

Held at the North West Regional Delegation of Public Works, the ceremony recognized individuals and institutions demonstrating leadership, innovation, and community impact across Cameroon and the broader CEMAC subregion.

AziCCUL walked away with three major distinctions—two attributed to its General Manager, Awah Walters, and one to its Board President, Ngang Mirabel Neh, cementing its reputation as one of the nation’s most reliable and forward-thinking microfinance institutions.

“It Is About Ethical Leadership and Community Service” — GM Awah Walters

Speaking moments after receiving the awards, General Manager Awah Walters expressed gratitude to CCJN for promoting a culture of recognition among institutions driving national development.

“I want to thank the Cameroon Climate Journalism Network for this initiative they have taken to recognize and encourage nation-builders,” he said. “I work in a credit union, and it’s our role to empower members of the community so that they can become better citizens of the country. In this light, it is about ethical leadership, membership engagement, and service to the community.”

Walters highlighted one of AziCCUL’s newest innovations, the Islamic Services, designed to meet the financial needs of Muslims who traditionally avoid interest-based banking systems.

“The Islamic Services is one of our recent services… fully shariah-compliant so that our Muslim following should belong,” he explained. “This ensures inclusiveness—Muslims and Christians alike can come on board, and we treat them according to what they expect from us.”

A Milestone for Microfinance and Community Impact

The CCJN awards, chaired by Tamukong Roland, Publisher of World Echoes Newspaper, spotlighted achievements aligned with nation-building, environmental consciousness, responsible governance, and sustainable development, values echoed in AziCCUL’s institutional philosophy.

For members, partners, and the wider financial ecosystem, AziCCUL’s triple victory signals a renewed commitment to innovation, customer-centred services, and inclusive financial solutions.

As the institution continues expanding its reach, its leadership believes the recognition will serve as both a validation of past efforts and a catalyst for greater community empowerment in the years ahead.
