Ngong Ngum Zenonia, the Divisional Delegate of Communication for Menchum and 2nd Deputy Mayor of the Wum Council has spent two days in a suspected Amba captivity.
Information reaching Laarry Times says she was taken from her Zonghokwo residence on Monday night by individuals believed to be Ambazonia separatist fighters.
According to local sources, the armed men stormed her home under the cover of darkness, forcibly removing her before disappearing into nearby bushes.
Family members and neighbours who witnessed the incident said the assailants acted swiftly, giving little time for alarm or intervention.
More than 24 hours after the abduction, Zenonia’s location remains unknown.
We have been reliably told that her captors have reportedly contacted the family, demanding a ransom of 10 million FCFA for her release.
Security officials in Menchum have not yet issued a formal statement, but a senior administrative source confirmed that investigations have been opened.
The kidnapping has sparked widespread fear among residents, especially public officials who have increasingly become targets of abductions, intimidation, and attacks in the Anglophone regions.
As both a government representative and municipal authority, Zenonia’s roles placed her at heightened risk amid the ongoing conflict between state forces and separatist groups.
Colleagues in the Ministry of Communication and the Wum Council have expressed deep concern over her safety. “This is a shocking and heartbreaking situation. We are praying for her safe return,” a Council staff member told reporters, requesting anonymity due to security fears.
Abductions for ransom have become a common tactic used by armed groups operating in the region since the escalation of the Anglophone crisis in 2017.
Officials, teachers, traditional rulers, humanitarian workers and journalists have all been victims, often held for weeks or months before negotiations secure their release.
