Cameroon’s opposition, Social Democratic Front (SDF) has strongly condemned what it describes as a “barbaric and atrocious” attack on the Mbororo community in Gidado, Ntumbaw village, Ndu Subdivision, in the North West Region.
In a statement released by its National Secretariat on Wednesday, the SDF expressed shock and outrage over the incident, which occurred in the early hours of January 14, 2026.
According to the party, armed Ambazonian attackers stormed the community and killed several civilians, most of them women and children, while they were asleep in their homes.
The party denounced the attack as an indefensible act of violence against unarmed civilians, stressing that no political cause or grievance can justify the targeting of innocent people. “This is an act of sheer barbarity,” the statement said, adding that violence directed at individuals because of their identity or origin constitutes a crime against humanity and a serious moral failing for society as a whole.
The SDF extended its condolences to the bereaved families and declared its full solidarity with the Mbororo community, which has been deeply affected by the tragedy. The party also renewed its long-standing call for the protection of civilians caught in the protracted conflict in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions.
Urging the government to act decisively, the SDF called on state authorities to take “urgent and effective measures” to safeguard civilian populations, particularly vulnerable groups, in conflict-affected areas. The party emphasized that continued insecurity and impunity threaten the country’s social fabric and future.
“The perpetrators of this atrocity must be identified and held fully accountable,” the statement read. “Cameroon cannot continue to lose its children to hatred and lawlessness. Every life matters, and violence against the innocent must never be tolerated.”
The statement was signed in Douala by Kejang Henry, National Communication Secretary of the Social Democratic Front, reaffirming the party’s position against all forms of violence targeting civilians amid the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West regions.
