2026 Women's Day: Hon. Dr. Ekandim Agbor Meg Calls for Justice and Peace for Women in Cameroon

Hon. Dr. Akandim Agbor Meg, Founder and CEO of CHAMEG Cameroon.

As Cameroon joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 41st edition of International Women’s Day, Hon. Dr. Ekandim Agbor Meg has delivered a powerful message urging national action against violence targeting women and calling for greater justice, equality, and peace across the country.

Hon. Dr. Ekandim Agbor Meg, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CHAMEG Cameroon, used the occasion to address Cameroonian women and the wider society, emphasizing that the 2026 theme, “Justice for Women and Peace,” reflects a pressing national concern.

In her message issued Sunday March 8, 2026, she highlighted the alarming rise in femicide, describing it as one of the most disturbing threats to the safety and dignity of women in Cameroon.
“Femicide, the killing of women simply because they are women, has reached alarming rates in Cameroon,” she said. “This brutal reality is a stain on our society, a betrayal of our values, and a threat to our collective future. We cannot normalize the loss of daughters, sisters, mothers, and friends.”

A Call for Solidarity with Victims

Hon. Dr. Meg, who also serves as Gender and Economic Empowerment Ambassador, addressed women who have experienced violence or lost loved ones, assuring them that they are not alone in their struggle. “To every woman who has lost a loved one to femicide, who has suffered violence, or who lives in fear, your pain is real, your struggle is valid, and your voice matters,” she stated. “We stand with you in solidarity, demanding justice and systemic change.”

Her statement comes amid growing advocacy from civil society groups across Cameroon calling for stronger protections for women and better enforcement of laws addressing gender-based violence.

Appeal to Government and Institutions

The women’s rights advocate based in the South West region urged government leaders and institutions to strengthen the legal framework protecting women and ensure accountability for perpetrators of violence. “It’s time to act,” she stressed. “Strengthen laws against gender-based violence, ensure perpetrators face consequences, and provide support for survivors.”

Dr. Meg further called on authorities to promote gender equality and place justice for women at the center of national development and peacebuilding efforts.

Role of Men and Boys

Recognizing that gender equality requires collective action, she also called on men and boys to take responsibility in challenging harmful social norms that enable violence. “Respect women’s dignity and stand against violence,” she urged. “Be allies in the fight for equality and peace.”

Empowering Women to Speak Out

Encouraging unity among women, Hon. Dr. Meg emphasized the importance of solidarity and collective advocacy in building a safer society. “You are powerful,” she told women across the country. “Support each other, speak out against injustice, and demand your rights.”

She added that meaningful change can only come when women can live safely, participate fully in society, and contribute to national development without fear.

A Leader in Peace and Development

Beyond her leadership at CHAMEG Cameroon, Hon. Dr. Ekandim Agbor Meg serves as a Premier Steering Committee Member of the Cameroon Women’s Peace Convention and Vice President of the Southwest Follow-Up Committee for Public Investment Budget Projects. Her work focuses on gender advocacy, economic empowerment, and peacebuilding in communities across Cameroon.

A Message of Hope and Urgency

In her central message, Dr. Meg called for a united national movement toward justice and equality. “Let’s unite for justice, peace, and equality,” she said. “The time for change is now.”
