Nchami Calistus, Quarterhead/Teacher Killed in Bambui

The lifeless body wrapped in blood of Nchami Calistus, Quarter Head of Atunibah quarter in Bambui, Tubah Subdivision, was discovered early Monday morning after he had reportedly been kidnapped by suspected separatist fighters.

The community leader, who was also a teacher in GHS Choubou-Mbu in Santa Subdivision, was found at CHS Junction in Bambui, not far from the seminary area. Residents who first arrived at the scene said the body had been abandoned by the roadside.

Sources in the community say Nchami Calistus had been kidnapped several days earlier from his residence near the Presbyterian Church area at Down CCAST in Bambui.

His killing has sent shock waves through the locality. Local accounts indicate that this was the second time the Atunibah Quarter Head had been kidnapped, raising concerns among residents about the increasing targeting of community leaders in the area.

Nchami Calistus served as the Quarter Head of Atunibah, commonly referred to as Down Quarter in Bambui. In addition to his traditional leadership responsibilities, he was also an educator, teaching Geography at Government High School (GHS) Choubou in Mbu, Santa Subdivision.

According to sources, he was last seen on Saturday evening while returning from the Bambui palace where quarter heads usually hold their weekly meetings. His disappearance heightened fears before the tragic discovery of his body on Monday morning.

Colleagues and residents described him as a dedicated teacher and calm community leader who worked both in the classroom and within traditional structures to serve his community. Nchami was married and a father of one child.

His death has left the Bambui community, students, and fellow teachers in mourning, as residents remember him for his commitment to education and community service.
