Women of the National Gendarmerie in the North West Region have launched a series of activities ahead of International Women’s Day aimed at reducing stress, strengthening solidarity among security personnel, and fostering interaction with civilian women. The activities come at a time when the region has been affected by more than a decade of insecurity.

Speaking during the event, the Legion Commander for the North West, Colonel Zang Godfroi Marius, said the initiative was designed to allow women of the corps to actively participate in the global celebration dedicated to women.

According to him, several activities had been organized specifically for female personnel of the gendarmerie, beginning with a thanksgiving Mass for divine protection and guidance before the sporting events that brought together women from different sectors.

Recognizing the importance of sports for physical wellbeing and social cohesion, the Legion Command organized a football match on March 4 between women of the National Gendarmerie and their counterparts from the police force. The police team emerged victorious with a 2–1 win.

Other recreational competitions included sack races, arm wrestling, bottle picking, and tug-of-war contests. The activities were accompanied by lively music reflecting the cultural diversity of Cameroon.

The event also featured exhibition stands showcasing locally produced goods. Among the items displayed was locally brewed wine made in Cameroon, noted for its similarity in taste and appearance to imported brands.
