The Reconciliation and Development Association (RADA) has announced the death of one of its staff members, Weleh Evaristus Yenkejim, whose body was recovered after days of search following a deadly flood incident in the Mulang area of Bamenda.
In an official statement released Sunday, March 29, 2026, from its head office in Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision, the organization confirmed that Evaristus’s remains were retrieved from the Mulang River and transported to the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The announcement comes amid growing grief in the community after torrential rains triggered a tragic incident that has so far claimed four lives. “Evaristus was a dedicated staff member whose commitment to our development work will be greatly missed,” the statement read. RADA extended heartfelt condolences to his wife, his family from Elak Oku, and all those affected by the loss.
The incident traces back to the evening of Friday, March 26, when heavy rains swept away an undisclosed number of residents. Rescue efforts began the following day, led by the Army Rescue Unit under Senior Warrant Officer Taku Paul, in collaboration with local residents. On Saturday, March 27, three bodies, all women, were recovered from a swampy area around Below Street Four in Mulang.
RADA Official Statement. The search continued into Sunday, when Evaristus’s body was found with the assistance of local volunteers, bringing the confirmed death toll to four as of March 29, 2026. Authorities have indicated that rescue and recovery operations were complicated by difficult terrain and persistent water flow in affected areas.
Meanwhile, at least four survivors of the disaster are receiving medical treatment at PMI Integrated Health Centre and Mbingo Annex, according to local sources.
RADA emphasized that it stood alongside the family of the deceased throughout the search efforts and pledged to continue offering support during the mourning period. The organization also expressed solidarity with other families affected by what appears to be a broader bridge collapse-related tragedy linked to the flooding. “We join them and all the families who are already mourning losses related to this incident and pray for strength and comfort for us all and for the people of Bamenda,” the statement added.
Funeral arrangements for Weleh Evaristus Yenkejim are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
