Prominent and highly celebrated Cameroonian anti-hate speech advocate and peace crusader, Sir Dr. Barrister Nico Halle, has called for the adoption of what he describes as the "Rule of Love" to complement the rule of law, warning that societies across the world are descending into disorder because legal systems alone have failed to guarantee justice, peace, and human dignity.

The appeal came as the Douala-based international legal luminary received one of the highest honours of The Voice 10th Anniversary Decennial Trendsetter Awards held in Yaoundé on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

The award, presented during celebrations marking the newspaper's tenth anniversary, recognized the former President of the Cameroon Bar Association as the "Most Celebrated Unwavering Peace Crusader and Anti-Corruption Champion of the Decade."

Recognition of a Lifetime of Service

The award organizers praised Nico Halle's longstanding commitment to peacebuilding, national reconciliation, ethical governance, and the fight against corruption.

In a citation signed by Theodore Mih Ndze, Publisher and Editor of The Voice Newspaper, and Kristian Ngah Christian, President of the Jury, the veteran lawyer was described as a leading architect of peace whose diplomacy and advocacy have served as a model for conflict resolution and nation-building.

The citation further commended his consistent opposition to corruption, hate speech, malpractice, and social injustice, while highlighting his efforts to promote patriotism, transparency, and accountability in public life. The distinction adds to an already extensive list of recognitions earned by the renowned legal practitioner.

"The Number Keeps Growing"

Accepting the award, Sir. Dr. Barrister Nico Halle expressed gratitude to the organizers for considering him worthy of the honour.
"I want to thank you very much for having found me worthy to receive an award," he said.

The veteran and refined legal colossus disclosed that the latest recognition brings his tally to 207 awards, a figure he said continues to grow through divine grace. "The number is only growing thanks to God," he told the audience, adding that he remains determined to continue championing peace and fighting moral decadence in all its forms.

A World in Crisis

In a wide-ranging address, he argued that contemporary global instability stems largely from the erosion of the rule of law. "The world is in total rubble, in chaos, anarchy, and complete disorder because the rule of law has failed," he said.

According to him, constitutions and legal frameworks that once served as pillars of governance have increasingly been weakened and ignored. "We realized that the constitutions that constitute the rule of law in the world, in Africa, and in Cameroon have been shredded and diluted, and they do not mean anything anymore," he said.

The respected international lawyer contended that legal mechanisms alone are no longer sufficient to address the challenges confronting humanity.

The "Rule of Love"

As a response, the distinguished and undisputed North West Ntumfor proposed what he called a new paradigm, the "Rule of Love" and the "Law of Love."

Describing love as humanity's highest moral principle, he argued that it should become a guiding force in governance, public discourse, and social relations. "Love is the greatest thing that can happen to you and me," he said. "That is what we need to advocate now. We need to spread love."

He maintained that the law of love transcends political constitutions and legal codes because it is rooted in the greatest commandment of faith and humanity. According to him, genuine social transformation can only occur when legal systems operate alongside compassion, empathy, and concern for others. "When the rule of law does not go with the law of love, nothing good can happen," he stated.

Challenge to the Media

Addressing journalists and media professionals gathered at the event, Sir. Dr. Barrister Nico Halle urged the press to intensify efforts aimed at promoting peace, truth, and national cohesion.

He called on media organizations to make the promotion of love, ethical values, and social responsibility part of their daily mission. "The media should ensure that love, which is the most powerful asset in the world, becomes part of our daily activities," he said.

He further encouraged journalists to remain steadfast in confronting societal challenges, despite the difficult environment in which they operate.

Fight Against Corruption and Social Ills

A significant portion of his speech focused on corruption and what he described as moral decline across Africa and beyond. He urged the media and civil society to strengthen campaigns against corruption, hate speech, xenophobia, tribalism, discrimination, and electoral malpractice.

The veteran anti-corruption advocate warned that graft and poor governance continue to undermine development and public trust in institutions. He also criticized what he described as manipulative political practices, including the misuse of public endorsements and motions of support to conceal misconduct and embezzlement. "We must fight corruption that has destroyed the very foundation of our country, our continent, and even the world," he declared.

Call for Ethical Leadership

Sir. Dr. Barrister Nico Halle did not fail to appeal for a departure from what he characterized as excessive pursuit of power, personal visibility, and material gain.
Instead, the veritable force and icon urged leaders and citizens alike to embrace integrity, humility, and service. "We must stay away from unbridled quests for power and inordinate ambition," he said.

The respected lawyer also warned against greed, narcissism, and megalomania, arguing that such attitudes weaken institutions and hinder national progress.

Glory belongs to God.

Despite the personal recognition, Sir. Dr. Barrister Nico Halle, a native of Awing in Santa Subdivision, insisted that the ultimate credit should not go to award recipients but to God. "Glory should not go to those who have received awards," he told the audience. "It should go to our Almighty Father God, because it is God that has made it possible for any of us to be considered."

He said every honour received should serve as a reminder of responsibility and service to humanity.

The senior managing partner of Nico Halle & Co. Law Firm reiterated his belief that the future of society depends on combining justice with compassion. "The Rule of Love and the Law of Love should reign," he said. "That is the way forward for all of us."

Enduring Legacy

For many observers, the latest recognition of Sir. Dr. Barrister Nico Halle truly reflects more than a decade of sustained advocacy by one of Cameroon’s most respected legal figures. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a leading voice for peace, human rights, transparency, and national dialogue. His contributions to legal practice, governance reforms, and social justice have earned him widespread respect both within Cameroon and internationally.
