Cameroonian scholar Daba Dagha Christel Aburutuh has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in African Literature from the University of Yaoundé I, becoming one of the country's youngest doctoral graduates at the age of 28.
Dr. Daba Christel married and mother of three successfully defended her doctoral thesis on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the university's Postgraduate School for Arts, Languages, and Cultures.
Her research, titled Identity Reconstruction in Postcolonial Anglophone and Francophone African Novels, examined the ways African literature explores identity in postcolonial societies.
Born on June 20, 1998, in Widikum, Momo Division, in Cameroon's North West Region, Dr. Daba Christel is a graduate of the Higher Teacher Training College (ENS) Bambili.
She pursued her doctoral studies in the Department of African Literature and Civilization at the Faculty of Arts, University of Yaoundé I.
The thesis was completed under the supervision of Prof. Pierre Suzanne Eyenga Onana as part of the 2024/2025 academic year.
Her achievement has drawn praise from colleagues and well-wishers, who have described it as a significant academic milestone and an inspiration to young Cameroonians pursuing higher education and research.
