The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC), Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia, has called on all PCC congregations to take a stronger stand against femicide and violence against women and girls.
In a message issued from the PCC Synod Office in Buea on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the PCC spiritual leader said the growing cases of violence against women should concern every Christian, family and community.
He stressed that every woman and girl has the right to live in safety and dignity, noting that each life lost to violence leaves behind grieving families, traumatised children and affected communities.
“Every woman's life is sacred and must be protected,” he said, urging Christians not to remain silent in the face of violence, abuse and the killing of women and girls.
Drawing from the Bible's command to “love your neighbour as yourself” in Mark 12:31, the PCC Moderator said the Church has a responsibility to defend life, protect human dignity and reject violence.
He called on pastors and church leaders to make the prevention of femicide and gender-based violence part of their sermons, Bible studies, Christian education programmes and other church activities.
According to Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia, the fight against femicide should involve prayer, education, advocacy, pastoral support and action to protect victims and prevent further violence.
He also called on the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF), Christian Men Fellowship (CMF) and Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) to play an active role in the campaign.
He urged men to promote peaceful and responsible relationships, women to continue speaking up for the safety and dignity of women and girls, and young people to promote respect, healthy relationships and non-violence.
The PCC Moderator further called on congregations to become safe spaces where victims and survivors of violence can receive compassion, pastoral care and proper guidance.
He warned against covering up or excusing cases of violence, urging Christians to encourage victims to seek help and ensure serious cases are reported to the appropriate authorities.
“Domestic violence is not discipline, abuse is not love, and silence is not peace,” Rt. Rev. Abia said, stressing that Christian homes should be places of love, protection, dignity and mutual respect.
Quoting Jesus' words in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers,” he called on Christians to promote peace in their homes, churches and communities by protecting vulnerable people and confronting violence.
He also urged all PCC congregations to take part in awareness campaigns, sensitization programmes, prayer and advocacy efforts aimed at preventing femicide and gender-based violence.
The Moderator called for the Church to speak with one voice against violence. “No more silence. No more tolerance of violence. No more loss of women and girls to femicide. Every life is precious. Every woman matters. Every girl deserves protection,” he said.
Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia called on Presbyterians to remain committed to protecting life and building safer families and communities where women and girls can live without fear.
