2024 Synod Election: Miki, Ayuk on Top

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) has elected Rev. Miki Hans Abia as its new Moderator during a recent synod in Buea. He takes over from the Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba, who served for ten years. Rev. Miki Hans previously held the role of Synod Clerk, a position now filled by Rev. Ayuk Solomon Eta.

The election process was conducted by an electoral college comprised of 31 Presbytery Secretaries, 31 Chairpersons, members of the Synod Committee, and heads of various church departments, totaling around 100 delegates from the PCC’s 31 Presbyteries. Notably, Rev. Miki Hans was elected unopposed after his main opponent, Rev. Njongai Polycarp, withdrew from the race. Rev. Ayuk Solomon also secured his position without contest after his challenger, Rev. Mokoko Solomon Elive, stepped aside.

In his final address as Moderator, Rev. Fonki encouraged church members to unite and support the new leadership, emphasizing the need for a stronger church that can effectively address societal challenges. His tenure is marked by significant infrastructural development, including health facilities and schools, and guidance through the Anglophone crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Who is Rev. Miki Hans

Rev. Miki Hans Abia was born on November 13, 1966, in Tombel and grew up in Momo Division of the North West Region. His education began at GS Ebobu and continued at the University of Yaoundé I. After initially pursuing a degree in Geology, he shifted his focus to theology, graduating from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary (PTS) in Kumba in 1997. 

He has held various roles within the PCC, including Treasurer and Presbyterial Secretary, and has been recognized for his leadership capabilities. Rev. Miki is married to Nyango Afor Vivian Miki and has four children. He prioritizes values such as honesty, consistency, and humility in his ministry.
 Who is Rev Ayuk Solomon

Rev. Ayuk Solomon Eta, born on August 2, 1977, in Ekondo-Titi, is the new Synod Clerk. He is the eighth of ten children and completed his primary and secondary education locally before attending PTS Kumba, where he graduated in 2003.

His ministerial career began in Bangem Subdivision, and he has since served in various capacities, including Parish Pastor and Presbyterial Treasurer. Rev. Ayuk holds a Master’s degree in Theology, with a focus on the PCC’s role in supporting internally displaced persons amid the socio-political crisis in the North West and South West regions. He is married to Martha Ayuk, a teacher trainer, and they have three children.

The new leadership of the PCC, with Rev. Miki Hans and Rev. Ayuk Solomon at the helm, aims to continue the church’s mission in a rapidly changing environment.
