In a shocking development, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging. Justice Nwosu-Iheme delivered the verdict on Monday, finding Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide resulting in Osinachi's death on April 8, 2022.
The court's decision came after the prosecution, led by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, presented a strong case against Nwachukwu. The prosecution called 17 witnesses, including Osinachi's two children, who testified against their father. The court also reviewed 25 documents tendered as exhibits, which helped establish Nwachukwu's guilt.
Nwachukwu was arraigned on June 3, 2022, on a 23-count charge bordering on culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, and spousal battery, among others. The judge held that the prosecution had proven the burden of proof placed on it by the law, leading to Nwachukwu's conviction.
The case has sparked widespread interest, with many awaiting the outcome. The verdict serves as a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for Osinachi and her family.
