2025 World Press Freedom Day: Barrister Nico Halle Cautions, Commends Media Practitioners In Cameroon

Douala, May 3, 2025 - Sir Dr. Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, a renowned peace crusader and international legal mind, has extended a goodwill message to media practitioners in Cameroon on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. 

In his message, Sir Dr. Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle who doubles as the national patron of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists, congratulated the press family for their resilience and dedication to their profession despite facing numerous challenges.

Barrister Halle emphasized the crucial role of the press in the sociocultural, economic, and political evolution of any nation. He urged media practitioners to prioritize access to credible information, particularly unclassified information, and to guard against misinformation and disinformation.

The legal expert cited Sections 310, 311, and 103 of the Penal Code, cautioning journalists against reckless reporting that could have serious consequences. He also warned media practitioners to be vigilant during this electoral period, avoiding false promises and maintaining their integrity.

Barrister Halle invoked the example of the Rwanda conflict, which was exacerbated by irresponsible reporting, and emphasized that only the truth can set people free. He concluded by invoking the Holy Spirit to guide and protect media practitioners as they navigate their roles.

In his message, Barrister Halle also reiterated his long-standing call for adequate subvention for the press, recognizing the importance of resources in enabling them to educate, inform, and entertain the public effectively.
