Franklin Tasong aka Mirac-Photos Re-Elected as President of North West Photographers

In a landslide victory, Akwaraberg Franklin Tasong, popularly known as Mirac Photos, has been re-elected as the President of the North West Chapter of the National Union of Independent Photographers in Cameroon (SNAPICAM).

The election, which took place at the International Hotel Bamenda on April 30, 2025, saw Tasong secure 18 votes, while his closest rival, Che Sammy, garnered 7 votes.

Tasong expressed his gratitude to the members for entrusting him with a second mandate, promising to work tirelessly to unite the photographers in the North West region.

"We should work together as a team so that we can jointly overcome the challenges in the first mandate," he said. "Let us keep aside our differences and focus on the goal ahead of us."

The newly elected President outlined his priorities, including bringing all photographers under one umbrella and stopping the use of mobile phones during official events.

"My first priority in this second mandate is to struggle to bring all the photographers together so that we can work together for the good of the photographers in the North West," he stated.

"I want to thank God that the collaboration of the members was able to come up with something good," he said. "I believe it is a new page that has been opened in the life of the SNAPICAM North West chapter."

Tendongkeng Martin, Regional President of SNAPICAM West Region and representative of the National President, congratulated the newly elected President and advised him to work with both supporters and opponents.

"A leader must walk with those who are against you and those who are with you," he said.

Tih Festus Nchinda, popularly known by his business name Festy-Media-Pro, expressed his delight in being nominated for the post of President, although he was disqualified due to being an irregular union member. He accepted the decision and praised the discipline of the union.

"I like the discipline," he said. "It shows that if I want to be eligible for the next election, I should be a regular member and also give my best to love the association, SNAPICAM, and to work for SNAPICAM."

The 12-man Executive Bureau, which will serve for a three-year term ending in 2029, comprises Akwaraberg Franklin Tasong as President, Che Sammy as Vice President, Acha Gilbert as Secretary General, Chenwi Jude as Vice Secretary General, Chi David as Financial Secretary, Ndongdie Nobert as Treasurer, Yella Sunky Asah as Communication Officer, Anaghe Godwin as Discipline Master, Mawo Emmanuel and Jeannette Lum as Socials Officers, and Kweti Boniface as Technical Adviser.

With 26 active members, SNAPICAM North West Chapter is poised to make a significant impact in the region's photography industry. The re-election of Akwaraberg Franklin Tasong is seen as a vote of confidence in his leadership and a mandate to drive the union forward.
